Earthquake

At 8:27pm this evening there was an earthquake. These things are not uncommon in southern California. Several months ago there was a small one. That quake was a jolt followed by a little trembling. The one tonight was a little bigger with a few seconds of shaking. According to wunderground.com it was a 4.0 magnitude. It made the bookshelf sway but it didn't make anything fall. Like I said, these things happen here so everyone just keep doing what they were doing and I just kept doing my laundry.

You can file this away for future story-telling time with the grandkids.

"When I was a young man I lived through a massive earthquake! It destroyed the building I was in, but I made sure to finish my laundry because that's the kind of guy I was. Now go now the lawn."

I was in an earthquake in Seattle in 2002 (?) with Brian Julin-McCleary only we didn't know each other then. But we were in the same room, hiding under tables that would not have protected us well if the roof would have come down. I'm glad none of your valuables fell off the wall...

As long as this post's comment page is stories, here's one: When I was in 8th grade I had a paper route. One schoolday morning as I was out delivering the papers, the ground shook and I fell down. It was very strange and confused me. When I returned home, I told my parents I thought there had been an earthquake. They did not believe me. At school I learned there had been a fertilizer plant explosion near Sioux City. So it wasn't actually an earthquake, but maybe the rural mid-west's closest thing. I hope you didn't fall down in the laundry room.

I remember hearing about that fertilizer plant explosion. It was pretty catastrophic.
